A storm is on its way from Connecticut. As of 11 p.m., Eversource reported about 1,700 power outages.

In Haddam, firefighters said a power line collapsed on a school bus on Maple Avenue West carrying 13 students and a bus driver.

Eversource was called in to remove it so students could evacuate and return to their parents.

Fortunately, the fire department said no one was injured.

There was another broken wire at the top of Turkey Hill Road, sending sparks into a tree.

Down on the shore, people encountered waves and rain.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen waves that big before,” said Carolynne Kelly of Old Saybrook.

“I’m not letting this stop me from my normal routine,” said John Moore of Mystic.

“Don’t let it affect your mood, will you?” said Noank resident John Sim.

Trees were also felled in other areas such as Putnam and Tolland.

Utility teams worked day and night responding to these outages.

Norwich Public Utilities resolved a major outage affecting 600 customers earlier in the evening and addressed another outage affecting 50 people around 10 p.m

“If you see a downed wire, you should assume it is live and potentially posing a deadly hazard. Stay clear of a power outage,” said Chris Riley of Norwich Public Utilities. “If you lose power, don’t lose patience. We will do everything we can to get the lights back on quickly.”

Utility companies encourage people to report their outages and not assume someone else has already done so.
