A fatal crash on Loop 202 in the East Valley causes morning delays

The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle around 6 a.m. Monday on Loop 202 Red Mountain near Dobson Road.

MESA, Ariz. – A fatal crash in the East Valley closed the westbound lanes of the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway during the morning rush hour.

According to Arizona DPS, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near milepost 10 east of Dobson Road around 6 a.m. Monday. At least one vehicle initially struck the pedestrian and DPS said the pedestrian was then struck by other vehicles.

Officials said it appeared the pedestrian stopped his vehicle in the area before being struck and killed.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

There is no estimated time for reopening.
