A former CBS reporter says executives shot down Hunter Biden’s laptop story pitches

Former CBS News investigative reporter Catherine Herridge released a video on Tuesday in which she claimed her former employer appeared to avoid certain stories about the infamous Hunter Biden laptop.

Despite initial reporting by the New York PostThe laptop was initially incorrectly dismissed as Russian disinformation aimed at influencing the results of the 2020 election. It was later discovered that the communication on the laptop was authentic The Washington Post and other outlets.

Herridge said in the video that she went to “very great lengths” to obtain a copy of the laptop files to avoid any journalistic risk regarding the story. Still, she said CBS News executives repeatedly blocked her from reporting on the laptop story until after the 2022 midterm elections.

“I argued against it because it was finished before midterms,” she said. “In my training, you should always do the story when it’s finished. They shouldn’t let the political cycle dictate their actions.”

Herridge said she felt there were opportunities for follow-up reports on recovered text messages that allegedly included “liberal use of the N-word.” However, CBS News reportedly told Herridge that the network had no interest in the story.

Herridge also claimed she tried to cover up evidence from the laptop that showed Joe Biden may have communicated through personal email addresses. That story pitch was also shot down, Herridge said.

“The answer was, ‘Well, we need to know what the content of the emails is,'” Herridge said. “But that would be a years-long process, so there was no option.”

“There were many reasons why I was told not to do it and not to pursue it,” Herridge added.

Several CBS News representatives did not respond to an emailed request for comment from the National News Desk on Tuesday.

The White House appeared to dodge a question about whether President Biden will pardon his son before he leaves office. Biden was convicted of federal gun charges in June and pleaded guilty to tax-related charges in September.

“I have nothing further to say,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. “I’m not going to go down a rabbit hole on this. I was very clear, the president was very clear when we were asked that question.”
