A potential Tik Tok ban could impact Minnesotans who use the platform.

Tom Payne just started a new chapter as an artist because of Tik Tok. He fears his momentum will wane without her.

MINNESOTA, USA – Today’s ruling from three federal appeals court judges upholds a law that could ban Tik Tok in the United States

The law was signed by Biden. requires the Chinese company to sell to an American owner by January 19.

Tik Tok and ByteDance are expected to appeal to the Supreme Court, but we don’t know if they will accept the case.

Local businesses say this could impact their reach.

Tom Payne has just started a new chapter as an artist.

In the past, Payne tried to sell his artwork at local art fairs, but he only sold a few prints and occasionally sculptures, and sometimes he sold no art at all.

Payne released his first video with his daughters in mid-November. He released a few more videos and quickly built a following.

Within the first few days, the TikTok channel received almost 5 million views.

Payne said he received 60 orders for Dead Fish Art in the past week.

“It would be heartbreaking for me if it obviously just disappeared,” he said.

“It’s difficult for local businesses and local artists to focus on diversified channels,” said Greg Song, assistant professor of emerging media.

He says that “micro-influencers,” people with fewer than 10,000 followers, will be the influencers and companies that will be hit hardest.

“It will be very difficult for them to restart on another network and another outlet and then have a strong fan base again,” Song said.

“It could be here today, gone tomorrow,” Payne said. “My dreams will still be there. They just aren’t seen by as many people.”
