A severe winter storm is expected on Friday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – An extremely devastating winter storm will hit middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky on Friday.

FIRST ALARM WEATHER DAY – FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT

Snow will likely begin falling in West Middle Tennessee before sunrise between 2 and 5 a.m. Friday and then spread eastward across the rest of the Midstate through the morning. In Nashville and along I-65 it will begin between 4 and 6 a.m. and east of I-65 in the Cumberland Plateau between 6 and 8 a.m

Snow will continue throughout the afternoon, with heavy snowfall possible in parts of the Midstate. One thing we are watching is the possibility of slight mixing in far southern Middle Tennessee, which could impact snowfall amounts in those areas.

Road conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly and flights to and from Nashville International Airport will also be affected.

Snowfall will gradually decrease from west to east on Friday evening.

Total snowfall accumulations will be in the 4 to 6 inch range across most of Middle Tennessee. Southern Middle Tennessee could see a little more snow accumulation, but keep in mind that we are alert to the possibility of mixing in these areas, so this could also impact snow levels.
