A St. Augustine woman wins $1 million from a $5 scratch-off ticket sold at Publix a week before Christmas

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A 37-year-old St. Augustine woman recently won a $1 million prize playing the $5 scratch-off game MONOPOLY™ SECRET VAULT, the Florida Lottery announced Wednesday.

According to the news release, the woman purchased the winning ticket at Publix at 125 Jenkins St. in St. Augustine. She elected to make a one-time lump sum payment of $576,900.00.

Additionally, the retailer received a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.

The scratch game includes more than 9.5 million winning tickets, according to the press release. The overall probability of winning is 1 in 3.95.

“Scratch-off games are an important part of the Lottery’s gaming portfolio, accounting for approximately 74 percent of ticket sales in the 2023-2024 fiscal year,” the release said. “In addition, since their inception, scratch-off games have awarded more than $64.3 billion in prizes, created 2,230 millionaires and generated more than $19.50 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF). .”
