A strong 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the California coast and the tsunami warning was lifted

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a strong 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck 60 miles (99 kilometers) west-southwest of Ferndale, California, on Thursday.

According to the USGS, the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Immediately after the earthquake, a tsunami warning was briefly in effect for the coastal areas of California and Oregon. However, the tsunami warning was lifted around midday, according to the National Weather Service.

The Eureka Police Department (EPD) notified residents and businesses in Old Town and throughout Fourth Bay that they must move inland. They said we should move north of Fourth immediately. Additionally, the Arcata Fire Department advised locals to leave coastal waters and move to higher ground or inland. A Tsunami evacuation center was set up at the Firehall Community Center at 9126 Shelter Cove Road.

Additionally, thousands of PG&E customers are currently without power due to the powerful earthquake. Restore times are staggered and updated frequently.

Authorities are currently assessing the situation and residents are advised to remain alert for possible aftershocks.
