After a weekend of chaos on the gridiron, the College Football Playoff (CFP) picture looks significantly different this week.

Undefeated Oregon remains at No. 1 in the new rankings released Tuesday by the CFP Selection Committee. The Ducks are followed by Ohio State at No. 2, Texas at No. 3 and Penn State at No. 4, all of which retain their positions from last keep week.

After a stunning 49-14 win over previously unbeaten Army, Notre Dame climbs to No. 5, with rival Southern Cal the last remaining obstacle for the Fighting Irish.

Miami remains the top-ranked school in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), moving up one spot to No. 6. The Hurricanes need a win against Syracuse on Saturday to clinch a spot in the ACC championship game against No. 9 SMU, which has already secured a shot at the conference title in its first season in the league.

A series of upsets in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) landed Georgia at No. 7 and Tennessee at No. 8.

Shocking losses by Alabama, Ole Miss and Texas A&M send Georgia into the SEC title game, where they will face the winner of Saturday’s game between No. 20 Texas and Texas A&M. Georgia, meanwhile, will face its non-conference rival Georgia Tech on Friday.

Mountain West Conference top seed Boise State moved up to No. 11 and would currently earn a first-round bye as the fourth-seeded conference champion. The Broncos host Oregon State on Friday before a Dec. 6 showdown against No. 22 UNLV or Colorado State for the Mountain West crown.

The Big Ten, SEC, ACC and Big 12 conference championship games will all be played on December 7th.

In the CFP format, the five highest-ranked conference champions are automatically entered into the 12-team field, with the four highest-ranked conference champions receiving an immediate bye in the quarterfinals.

After a crazy win over BYU, No. 16 Arizona State is currently the highest-ranked team in the Big 12 Conference. That puts the Sun Devils in pole position to reach the conference title game and potentially earn their way into the CFP. But first, Arizona State must travel south to face its nemesis Arizona on Saturday.

Arizona State players and fans celebrate after defeating BYU.

Thanksgiving weekend marks the final week of the college football regular season and will feature many teams across the country playing their archrivals.

With only a week remaining until the conference championships, Rivalry Week will be particularly important for the schools still vying for a CFP spot.

In one of the most anticipated events of the season, Ohio State hosts Michigan on Saturday in the 120th edition of The Game. The Buckeyes need a win against the Wolverines to secure a rematch against Oregon in the Big Ten title game.

Top-ranked Oregon, meanwhile, must fight a border war against its northern neighbor Washington on Saturday, even though the Ducks are already assured of playing for the conference title.

For CFP contenders who are not scheduled to play in their conference championship games, these rivalries provide one final opportunity to improve their resumes before Selection Day.

Tennessee can solidify its chances of making the CFP field by beating in-state rival Vanderbilt again on Saturday.

After a resounding loss to Ohio State, Indiana dropped to 10th place, but the Hoosiers still have a great chance of being selected for the CFP if they can defeat their rival Purdue, which has yet to win a game in the Big Ten Conference plays this year.

Clemson was a big mover in the most recent CFP rankings, rising five spots to No. 12, where they are currently the first team to be left out of the CFP rankings. But with some higher-ranked teams guaranteed to lose before the season ends, the Tigers can put their best foot forward with a win Saturday over in-state rival South Carolina, ranked 15th.

Alabama fell six spots to No. 13 after an embarrassing loss to Oklahoma, while SEC colleague Ole Miss fell five spots to No. 14 after its own stunning loss to Florida. Every team is hoping for more chaos in the coming weeks and a win in the rivalry this weekend.

Ole Miss hosts Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl on Friday, while Alabama faces Auburn in the annual Iron Bowl on Saturday.

And finally, don’t ignore No. 17 Tulane of the American Athletic Conference. The Green Wave close out the regular season on Thanksgiving against Memphis and then face Army on Dec. 6 for the conference championship.

If Tulane can win, they could potentially sneak their way into the 12-team playoffs through the back door when there is absolute chaos in the Big 12, where a staggering nine teams still have a chance to win the conference championship. If Tulane were ranked higher than the eventual Big 12 champion, the Green Wave would crash the CFP while the Big 12 would be snubbed.
