Southern Utah will wake up Christmas morning to likely snow already as a storm moves in overnight. Then in the afternoon, winds shift and snow arrives along the Wasatch Front, with a few inches possible in northern Utah valleys.

According to the National Weather Service, Salt Lake City currently has a 60 to 70 percent chance of more than a trace amount of snowfall, with the possibility of snowfall accumulating in the banks.

The mountains are expected to get a decent amount of snow, which will please skiers and snowboarders who have endured a disappointing start to the winter. The resorts above the Cottonwood Canyons could see up to 10 inches of snow.

Another storm is expected to hit many of the state’s mountains on Thursday and Friday. Overall, northern mountain areas could receive up to 3 feet of snow during all storms, with higher amounts possible in the Bear River Mountains and upper Cottonwoods.

The Thursday-Friday storm will bring only light accumulations to the valleys.
