The mysterious case of the disappearance of an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s disease in Belgium has been solved thanks to Google Maps.

Marcel Taret was the sole caregiver for his 83-year-old wife, Paulette Landrieux, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.

Podcaster Mr Ballen, whose recent video on the subject went viral, explained that caring for Paulette was a full-time job for Marcel.

‘“Paulette needed help remembering to eat on time or take her medications,” he said.

“Sometimes she would just run away without telling Marcel and he would have to lock her up and take her home.”

Marcel turned his back on Paulette for a few minutes while they were both hanging out laundry in the garden of their home in Andenne, Belgium on November 2, 2020.

Unfortunately, this would be the last time he would ever see her.

Concerned, he called the police, who immediately sent a search and rescue helicopter over the area to find her – to no avail.

Despite continuous search efforts, Paulette was not found for two years.

But completely by chance, a Google Streetview car drove past the house at the same time the disappearance occurred.

In 2022, one of Marcel’s neighbors examined the street view photos on the street and found the haunting final image of Paulette.

Using this new lead, police followed the path Paulette had apparently taken and found her body hidden in a blackberry bush.
