When Aaron Rodgers’ tenure with the New York Jets is over after this season, he will have made history along the way.

The four-time MVP threw the 500th touchdown pass of his career on Sunday, finding tight end Tyler Conklin in the end zone after kicking in the pocket. It was his 25th touchdown with the Jets after scoring 475 with the Green Bay Packers.

At 41, Rodgers is the fifth quarterback in NFL history to throw 500 touchdown passes, joining Tom Brady (649), Drew Brees (571), Peyton Manning (539) and Brett Favre (508). Philip Rivers comes closest with 421.

Funnily enough, all six of these quarterbacks were selected as either starters or reserves in the 2010 Pro Bowl.

Rodgers entered that game, the last of his second season in a Jets uniform, with his football future as unclear as ever. It’s no secret that his tenure with the Jets was an unmitigated disaster, as he missed almost all of his first season due to a torn Achilles tendon and led the Jets to a 4-12 record earlier this season.

The Jets have Rodgers under contract for next season, but it’s an open question whether they release him in any way. As Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reported, Rodgers is quietly pushing for another season in New York, where a number of players have been signed at his request, while the Jets appear less enthusiastic. There were also some more public taunts.
