ABC News’ Marc Burstein to retire after Trump’s inauguration

Marc Burstein, senior producer of ABC’s special events coverage, announced Thursday that he will retire after Donald Trump is sworn in for his second term. His last day with the network will be January 31st.

“I have had an extraordinary run and over the past 27 years it has been an honor and privilege to lead the special events team, covering the most significant events of our time. “That means there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t go to sleep without first checking to make sure my phone is charged and the ringtone is loud,” Burstein said in a letter to employees first published by Variety.

“After producing literally thousands of special reports and countless scheduled events, it is time for me to retire and sleep at night. How do you know when the time is right? Honestly, I don’t know. But it feels right. Another presidential election is behind us and a new headquarters building is ahead. “I will be retiring from ABC News after the inauguration next month,” his statement continued.

Burstein first joined ABC in the 1980s and has been involved in the network’s special reporting since 1997. After his retirement, he will continue to work as a consultant for ABC.
