According to Paul Finebaum, Notre Dame only wins one game in the College Football Playoff

Notre Dame is one of the hottest teams in the country as the College Football Playoff begins this weekend. The Irish have won 10 straight games since the collapse Northern Illinois early September, and nine of the ten wins were by 14 or more points.

Still, ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum doesn’t expect Notre Dame to find much success in the CFP. Finebaum believes the Irish can pull through Indiana at home on Friday, but he expects their season to end against them Georgia on January 1st.

“I like it all Marcus Freeman did it this year,” Paul Finebaum said on SportsCenter on Monday. “He survived that ugly loss to Northern Illinois and found a path to the playoffs. And I think they will overcome Indiana. But that’s where the train stops.”

If Notre Dame beats Indiana in its first-round game, it will face Georgia in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. The Bulldogs could be without a starting quarterback Carson Beck in that game after suffering an “upper extremity injury” late in the first half of the SEC Championship Game Texas.

However, without Beck, Finebaum expects Georgia to beat Notre Dame.

“I’m well aware that Carson Beck probably won’t be playing in this game,” Finebaum said. “But I think Georgia has enough pieces to get past Notre Dame.”

Beck was injured on the final play of the first half against the Longhorns and was substituted Shooter Stockton for the second half. Kirby Smart said after the game that there was no timetable for Beck’s return.

Still, Stockton played well after Beck went down, leading Georgia to a win over Texas. If necessary, Finebaum believes Stockton can lead the Bulldogs past Notre Dame.

The sophomore was 12 of 16 passes for 71 yards with no touchdowns and one interception against the Longhorns. He also rushed for 8 yards.

There’s no doubt that the players around Stockton will have to compete for Georgia to beat Notre Dame, but Finebaum believes they’re ready.
