NEW YORK (AP) — Ten teenagers were injured in a mass shooting in Jamaica, Queens, when police say several suspects opened fire outside a venue.

The police are looking for the four male suspects who shot into a crowd of around 15 people who were standing in front of the event site. It happened just after 11:15 p.m. on New Year’s Day in front of the Amazura Concert Hall on 144th Square.

There were so many casualties that the street was full of ambulances taking patients to local hospitals.

According to police, about 90 people were in a private event room upstairs. The venue was packed and there was a line of about 15 people waiting outside.

According to police, at that point, four men walking along 91st Avenue approached the crowd and fired approximately 30 shots. Then they ran to 143rd Place, where they got into a light-colored sedan with foreign license plates.

“Officers responding to the numerous emergency calls found a total of ten victims – six women and four men – who were taken to area hospitals. All victims are expected to recover with non-life-threatening injuries,” NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera told reporters overnight.

The victims are between 16 and 20 years old.

Police say the public has been instrumental in solving serious crimes in recent weeks and they hope the public’s help will help them catch the suspects in this case.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or in Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). You can also submit a tip via their website or via DM on Twitter, @NYPDTips. All calls are treated confidentially.
