According to sources, three Piedmont High School graduates die in a fiery Cybertruck accident

PIEDMONT, California.A fiery Cybertruck accident in Piedmont, a day before Thanksgiving, killed three people and sent one person to the hospital early Wednesday.

Two sources told KTVU that all four are 2023 graduates of Piedmont High. Two of the fatalities were men and the third was a woman.

A steady stream of well-wishers, friends and residents paid their respects at the crash site on Wednesday. Many cried as they hugged and comforted each other.

Stacy Martin burst into tears at the scene as she learned about the victims, some of whom she had taught in middle school and one in elementary school.

“So terrible,” Martin said. “They all have wonderful families.”

She added: “Knowing her only makes it worse. But I just can’t imagine it for her parents and siblings,” she said, crying.

Police Chief Jeremy Bowers did not immediately provide any details about the victims.

But he described what happened from 3:08 a.m. when police were first notified of the tragic scene.

When officers arrived at Hampton Road and King Avenue, they found a Cybertruck completely engulfed in flames.

Bowers said crews tried to put out the fire with fire extinguishers, but the intensity of the flames was too great.

It’s not clear what happened to the Cybertruck or where it was going, although Bowers said speed was likely one of the contributing factors.

The Cybertruck ended up wedged between a tree and a retaining wall.

Bowers said a young man was following the Cybertruck – it was unclear what his relationship was to the four people in the car – and that when it left the road, he got out of his own car to grab one of the people to pull it out of the vehicle.

That man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, Bowers said, and the other three people were pronounced dead.

Bowers said it was possible that the young man and the four in the Cybertruck had previously been at an event together.

“The only vehicle that was involved in the accident, followed by another vehicle that followed and struck the vehicle that was completely engulfed,” Bowers said. “The person got out of the car and was able to pull the person out, but the vehicle was a Cybertruck in nature and the heat was just too intense.”

A short time later, two adults came to hug the young man, who appeared to be in his mid-20s.

Piedmont police and firefighters as well as the California Highway Patrol were on scene. The CHP investigates all fatal accidents in Piedmont.

Further details were not initially disclosed. Out of respect for their families, Bowers did not release any information about the victims.

“This is just a tragic loss of life,” Bowers said. “We do not know the cause of the collision and during the holidays our thoughts are with the families struggling with this tragedy.”
