Adam Wingard’s “Face/Off 2” starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage – World of Reel

It was announced back in 2022 that Adam Wingard and his long-time collaborator, writer Simon Barrett, would be there get together for a sequel to 1997’s Face/Off. Last year, in a chat with The Fourth Wall PodcastWingard stated that he would only make the film if the original cast returned:

I mean, the only way we can do this is if we, you know, get the original cast.” I’m not going to say how it works or anything, but it has to 100% be the true sequel, not just like some fan service movie, not just some ca-ching thing, it has to feel like the ultimate Sequel to the original film.

We now have an update from Daniel Richtmanand it’s a real doozy. He confirms that Nicolas Cage and John Travolta will return for the sequel, but possibly in supporting roles.

“Face/Off 2” apparently revolves around the children of Castor Troy (Cage) and Sean Archer (Travolta), who grow up determined to… compete against each other. This is too wild to be true, but knowing Richtman’s source for the reporting, he probably saw it on a current production grid, which shouldn’t be discredited.

The sequel could only work if the characters from the original returned. Much of the fun in the 1997 film came from the crazy alchemy that ensued between Cage and Travolta. You can’t repeat that with any other actor.

No production date has been announced, but largely between Travolta Lead role in C films And since Cage’s schedule is surprisingly tight next year, perhaps we can expect filming to begin very soon?

You’re probably also wondering how Cage could possibly return for the sequel when his character was shot and killed by a harpoon at the end of the original. Well, actually it’s quite simple – Barrett, who is writing the sequel, has stated that he doesn’t believe Castor Troy – played by Cage – actually died.

The funny thing is, I personally never thought Castor Troy would have died at the end of Face/Off. Looking at it now, it’s pretty clear that they were probably trying to point it both ways so that he looks pretty damn dead when he gets shot with the fishing spear. But they don’t cover it up and in the background he is being loaded into an ambulance. In my opinion, you shouldn’t load a person into an ambulance next to a living person in a movie without putting a sheet over them unless they’re alive.

I was hoping John Woo would be back for the sequel, but we’ll have to settle for Wingard and Barrett. Wingard is fresh off his “Godzilla x Kong” films but is currently filming A24’s “Onslaught,” written by Barrett, which is being touted as his return to indie roots that includes “You’re Next” and “The Guest.” have produced. ”
