AEW should reunite the classic team to strengthen the tag division

In the early years of AEW, Tony Khan strongly emphasized the value of tag team wrestling. There were countless tag matches on Dynamite and Rampage. For a while there were more tag variations than singles, or at least that’s how it felt.

As AEW’s roster has grown and more top talent has joined the company, the tag division has shrunk. Even The Acclaimed – a major seller during the hot spell – was so underused that it became freezing cold.

However, Khan still has a problem up his sleeve. When Adam Copeland originally agreed to join AEW, older fans began drooling at the idea of a possible Copeland and Christian Cage reunion. The duo had been an elite tag team in their earlier years in WWE.

On his Grilling JR podcast, legendary announcer Jim Ross admitted that there’s still a chance for the duo to team up for one final tag run together.

“Yeah, there’s always a chance,” Ross said. He turned to Fightful for transcription. “I would be for it because I know their natural chemistry is amazing.” I’ve seen her at her best and tags at this stage of her career aren’t a bad idea. If you want to bring some spark and pizzazz to your tag team division, this isn’t a bad place to start.”

Both Copeland and Cage are experienced talents. They know how to attract an audience and put on high-quality games. The potential success that would result from the two working together should be undeniable. Additionally, the former tag team’s reunion draw could attract some new attention.

Any fan over the age of 30 will likely have fond memories of this duo and will no doubt enjoy watching them live out their final years with the occasional team-up.

Of course, the fact that the two veterans are reigniting the tag division shouldn’t affect their individual storylines. We still need a logical end to their feud, which has been volatile since Copeland joined the company.

AEW has several options available to them in the coming months. The established squad shows considerable versatility. However, if Khan wants to take the company back to its roots, what better way to rebuild the tag division than to bring back the Edge and Christian pairing, even if just for a small number of matches.
