After 20 inches of snowfall, winter storms continue ahead of Thanksgiving

Snow fell on Colorado’s mountains this week, bringing more than 2 feet of snow in high areas, but the storm is expected to subside on Wednesday.

As of Tuesday evening, 1.5 to 2 feet of snow had fallen in areas above 10,000 feet, according to the Denver and Boulder region’s National Weather Service. This resulted in some serious powder for area ski mountains, with Copper Mountain reporting 20 inches in 24 hours and Breckenridge reporting 18 inches in 24 hours.

The heavy snowfall is expected to ease around midday local time and end in the evening, although some accumulation could occur in the Denver area through the afternoon.

Officials say travelers in Colorado should prepare for winter conditions and check COtrip.org for road closures and traction laws.

As the storms end in Colorado, some of them will bring snow to the Northeast. Shortly after Thanksgiving, an Arctic blast is expected to bring lake-effect snow to the Great Lakes region.
