After a deadly attack, Chicago police are increasing security at the Christmas market

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago police have increased security around the Christkindlmarkt in the city’s Loop after a deadly attack at a German Christmas market.

CPD says officers are continuing to monitor the incident after a car plowed into the crowded German Christmas market on Friday, killing at least two people and injuring at least 60 others.

The two people who were confirmed to have died were an adult and a small child. Among those injured, 15 people suffered serious injuries.

An announcement about the CPD’s special attention to the city’s Christmas market comes hours after what authorities described as an alleged attack after a car raced into the market.

Police forces in Germany identified the sole suspect as Tamara Zieschang, 50. The motive is still unclear.
