After days of snow-covered roads, Mount Adams residents see the roads cleared

CINCINNATI – Mount Adams residents are feeling relief, nearly three days after a winter storm ripped through the Tri-State.

We spoke to several people on Tuesday who were frustrated with their snow-covered roads. Just a day later, they were happy to see a cleared road.

“When I went to work around 8am this morning I could barely see the road, it was still covered in slush and ice,” said resident Noel Ripley. “When I got home around 4:30 p.m., you could actually see the sidewalk.”

When we relayed their initial complaints to the city, officials told us they could only salt the roads in Mount Adams because there was “nowhere to push the plowed snow” on Tuesday.

This left several residents stranded at home or driving in unsafe conditions.

“I was stressed… I was walking down the hill really slowly,” said Christy Barton, who had to drive through the snow-covered hills to get to work.

Ripley told us she had a similar experience on her way to work.

“If I didn’t have a four-wheel drive car, I wouldn’t have made it down the hill,” she said.

The city began clearing snow from Mount Adams streets Wednesday afternoon. A city spokesperson sent me the following statement:

“DPS and Parks are working together to clear snow from Mt. Adams. Again, it is a unique and difficult neighborhood due to the narrow, steep streets. They haul snow out of the neighborhood because there is no place to safely clear it. This speaks to the level of cooperation between city departments. It is truly all hands on deck and we are using all resources to clear the streets and ensure safe conditions for everyone.”

With the streets clear, residents could immediately feel the difference.

“You can actually get up there stress-free, day or night,” Ripley said. “I felt kind of comfortable and it was just nice to see that the mound was actually getting some attention.”

With the sigh of relief comes the hope that the next snowfall will also bring with it a quicker reaction.

“A lot more snow than expected, one of our biggest snowfalls in years, but there are a lot of possibilities and it was just unfortunate that it took them three days to figure it out,” Ripley said.
