Spoilers for the Season 7 premiere of The newbiecalled “The Shot” and available streaming with a Hulu subscription Now.

The newbie arrived on TV Guide 2025 with the aftermath of some season 6 twists to discuss including Nolan (Nathan Fillion) recovers physically and mentally after being shot, and what Chenford’s working relationship will be like afterward Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) And Tim‘S (Eric Winters) the fan-favorite romance ended abruptly last year. A major change that emerged during the break also needed to be addressed: the exit of Tru Valentino as Officer Aaron Thorsen. “The Shot” explained his exit offscreen quite well, but in a way that made me wish he had gotten an on-screen sendoff.

The news about Thorsen came after an opening sequence that was, unsurprisingly, based on comments from showrunner Alexi Hawley, quite action-packed. It was also a fairly casual reveal since it was part of Nolan and… Juarez She talks about finally being able to wear short sleeves. After she noticed that Thorsen had to give up long sleeves earlier than she did, the following exchange took place:

  • Nolan: “How’s Aaron doing in North Hollywood anyway?”

  • Juarez: “He has settled in. I’m glad no one on the ward knows he was a patient of Blair’s.”

And that was it! All in all, it was a pretty short farewell for the actor, who was part of the series in Seasons 4 through 6, but at least not one where he was killed off during a break. But the explanation that it’s as simple as a move to a precinct not too far from Mid-Wilshire just makes me wish it was The newbie could have at least brought Tru Valentino along for a cameo so Thorsen could bring the exposition to the screen himself rather than via a distracted Juarez.

Based on the actor’s message after news of his exit broke, there appeared to be no bad blood left, with Valentino even remarking, “You never know who might resurface in Mid-Wilshire County.” Didn’t get Premiere back for another episode; Could I get my wish later in Season 7? While he was never a key figure on par with Nolan, Lopez, or either half of Chenford, his fate was one of the biggest cliffhangers at the end of season five.

With this in mind, it became clear pretty early on why The newbie has written out one of its series regulars ahead of Season 7. There are two new newcomers to the mix: milesthe transfer wrestler from Texas who wasted no time teasing Tim as his TO, and Seththe newbie who handed over a crime scene to Lucy’s horror.

Personally, I’m not convinced that the new arrivals take up time that might otherwise have been spent on Thorsen, but as Chenford more or less noted, it’s difficult to judge a character based on just a single day. Plus, her bet on Miles vs. Seth is a nice storyline for her after her fear of their relationship ending. First, take a look at the promo for the next part of Season 7:

Keep tuning in to ABC on Tuesdays at 10pm ET for new episodes of The newbiefollowing Kaitlin Olson‘S High potential at 9 p.m. ET and Will Trent Season 3 at 8 p.m. ET.
