Aina misses the shortlist for Goal of the Month

Aina misses the shortlist for Goal of the Month

Ola Aina’s spectacular strike in Nottingham Forest’s 3-0 win over West Ham United at the City Ground did not make the shortlist for November’s Goal of the Month award.

Aina scored Forest’s third goal with a powerful shot from outside the box.

The Super Eagles full-back showed remarkable physicality, holding off his opponent before taking advantage of poor space. He then let loose a curling shot that surpassed Łukasz Fabiański and shot into the far corner.

The goal, which was Aina’s first for Nottingham Forest this season in 14 games in all competitions, was met with widespread applause.

BBC reporter John Bennett had predicted it would make the shortlist, while Lionesses legend Karen Carney described the goal as “unstoppable, even by three goalkeepers”.

However, Aina’s achievement was not included in the Premier League’s list of eight candidates for the November Goal of the Month award.

Goals shortlisted included Leif Davis’ strike for Ipswich in a 1-1 draw with Leicester City and Mohamed Salah’s strike in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Brighton, both scored on November 2nd.
Other nominees included Harry Wilson’s opening goal in Fulham’s 2-1 win over Brentford

November 4th and Alejandro Garnacho’s curling goal in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City on November 10th.

Emerson Palmieri’s free-kick for West Ham against Arsenal on November 30 and three goals from Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha also featured.

Notably, Cunha became the first player in Premier League history to have three goals nominated for a single Goal of the Month award.

Despite the setback, Ola Aina will be determined to improve his attacking performances and score more outstanding goals that could earn recognition for future nominations before the end of the season.
