Air Canada plane catches fire after frightening landing hours after deadly plane tragedy in South Korea | World News

The incident came just hours after a Boeing 737 caught fire while landing at South Korea’s Muan Airport, killing all but two passengers.

An Air Canada flight made a scary landing at Halifax Airport when the plane skidded down the runway after landing with broken landing gear and caught fire. There were no immediate reports of any casualties in the incident.

The incident came just hours after a Boeing 737 caught fire while landing at South Korea’s Muan Airport, killing all but two passengers.

Videos purporting to show the incident showed the plane’s wings scraping the runway, causing a fire.

The aircraft in question reportedly belongs to PAL Airlines, which operated Air Canada flight AC2259 between St. John’s and Halifax.

Just a few hours earlier, a Jeju Air plane carrying 181 passengers exploded after landing at the airport in the South Korean city of Muan on Sunday. Only two people survived, while 179 others are believed to have died in the accident.

The Jeju Air plane was carrying 175 passengers and six flight attendants, it said, citing South Korea’s Yonhap news agency. Follow LIVE updates on the South Korea plane crash

Local authorities initially confirmed that 28 people died in the crash, but the number rose as dozens of people were critically injured. Two people were confirmed to have been rescued while 179 passengers and crew were presumed dead, South Korea’s Yanhop News Agency said.

The Jeju Air aircraft was a Boeing 737-800.

Yonhap News Agency reported that the plane suffered a landing gear malfunction after a bird strike, veered off the runway and collided with a fence. Rescue officials said they were investigating the exact cause of the fire.
