LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A passenger on a recent United Airlines flight to Los Angeles was filmed in a violent outburst, repeatedly kicking a seat and smashing a plastic tray until other passengers stepped in to restrain him.

In a video taken by another passenger, the man can be seen standing on a seat, repeatedly kicking the cushion and destroying the plastic tray table.

Gino Galofaro said he filmed the incident and then worked with others to restrain the man.

“I took the video very quickly and watched the flight attendant walk by and do nothing,” Galofaro told ABC7. “Nobody on the plane did anything. So I stood up and started holding him. Two other passers-by were given cable ties by the flight attendant. So we had to hold him with cable ties and then strap him to the seat.”

Galofaro is the founder of Hope Interventions, a Southern California organization specializing in substance abuse recovery. He assumes that the unruly passenger was under the influence of drugs.

United says law enforcement met the plane upon its arrival at LAX. The passenger was banned from all future flights of the airline.

The incident occurred on November 16 on United Flight 502 from Austin to LAX.
