Al Roker reveals ‘Wicked’ spoilers in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade coverage

Al Roker did something bad.

On Thursday morning, the “Today” show co-host accidentally revealed a major spoiler for the “Wicked” movie, which stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

Roker was hosting an early morning segment of the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with Idina Menzel, 53, when he revealed her secret.

“You had a cameo in ‘Wicked’ in the movie,” Roker said.

Menzel admitted that she actually appeared in “Wicked: Part One,” the film adaptation of the musical, but teased Roker that it was supposed to be a surprise.

“You shouldn’t tell anyone about the cameo! “The cat is out of the bag,” complained Menzel.

“Cat’s out of the bag!” Roker repeated, before defending himself because “everyone shared everything online.”

The actress herself has shared several photos on social media showing her on set in costume, but few knew what to expect before entering the theater – but we’re going to do something evil and gives it away.

In the film, Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, 56, portray members of a theater group in the Emerald City that performs “One Short Day,” which tells the story of the Wizard’s mythical arrival in Oz.

The dynamic duo star in a spectacular performance as Erivo’s Elphaba and Grande’s Glinda arrive in the magical city for an appointment with the magician (Jeff Goldblum).

“It fills me with great pride to be part of the creation and legacy of ‘Wicked.’ I will cherish it forever,” enthused Menzel.

She rose to prominence playing Elphaba on Broadway alongside Chenoweth as Glinda in 2003, when the book-turned-musical-then-film first came to the stage.

“You shouldn’t tell anyone about the cameo! “Cats out of the bag,” complained Menzel.

“And the film treated our show very lovingly and respectfully while taking it to a new level,” Menzel told Roker.

“Wicked: Part One” grossed a whopping $114 million at the domestic box office in its opening weekend a week ago.

Menzel noted that appearing on the “Today” show with Roker – her sixth time at the parade – was a “full circle” moment, as she appeared in the parade as Elphaba when the show first appeared nearly 20 years ago came on stage.

The actress, now a veteran of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, is expected to perform a song from the show “Redwood,” in which she currently stars, called “Great Escape.”
