The 2025 Under Armor All-American Game was an opportunity for some of the country’s top soccer talent to shine in the national spotlight, but there was cause for concern in the third quarter of Thursday’s contest.

That’s because Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell apparently suffered an ankle injury when he took a hard hit during a pass.

Luckily for Russell and the Crimson Tide, side reports suggested he appeared to be doing well even if he didn’t return:

5-star QB Keelon Russell (right ankle/foot) is out for the remainder of the Under Armor All-America Game.
The outpost was told he could leave, according to field reports, but there was clearly no reason to risk it.

While the 2024 season was one to forget for Alabama, the future is bright in large part because of Russell’s arrival.

He is a 5-star prospect and the No. 2 recruit in the 2025 recruiting class 247Sport’ Composite Rankings. The 2024-25 Gatorade Football National Player of the Year can operate as a dual threat with his legs, but it’s his passing skills that stand out the most.

Russell’s ability to make throws at all levels will make him even more dangerous when paired with star receiver Ryan Williams at Alabama.

His arrival is even more important for the Crimson Tide because quarterback Jalen Milroe announced Thursday that he is entering the 2025 NFL Draft rather than returning for his senior season in 2025.

This means Russell will have the opportunity to compete for the starting spot in his first season, making his health even more important.

Alabama certainly won’t be thrilled that he suffered an injury in an exhibition game like Thursday’s, but there can at least be comfort in knowing that he appears to have avoided a significant setback.
