According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Friday morning, Alabama Crimson Tide co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Colin Hitschler has been informed that he will not be returning for the 2025 season.

In his only season at Alabama, Hitschler previously held the two aforementioned roles, coaching defensive backs alongside his co-defensive coordinator Maurice Linguist.

As co-defensive coordinator, Hitschler was not responsible for the Crimson Tide defense’s playmaking duties, as those were taken over by current defensive coordinator Kane Wommack.

Prior to Alabama, Hitschler was not among the assistant coaches who followed head coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama, as he previously served in a similar role with the Wisconsin Badgers during the 2023 season. In Madison in 2023, Hitschler served as both co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach.

Before Wisconsin, Hitschler served as an assistant coach at places like Cincinnati and South Alabama.
