Alabama Power offers tips on how to save money in the winter

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – ‘Tis the season, and we’re not just talking about Christmas! It is also cool, on some days and nights even really cold! We’re on your side and asking the folks at Alabama Power about ways to keep your home warm without breaking your budget.

The goal is to save money while being comfortable. Danielle Kimbrough of Alabama Power says that’s entirely possible when you consider that number – 68 on the thermostat.

“One of our biggest tips is to look at the thermostat. We recommend staying at 68 this time of year. This will save you a lot of money,” said Danielle Kimbrough, spokeswoman for Alabama Power.

And there is more. Kimbrough also recommends running your dishwasher, washer, and dryer at night, but not necessarily at the same time.

“These things are much better if you run them at night rather than at peak times during the day. So when we talk about peak times of the day, that’s the time when the most energy is being used, and whatever that may be for the customer. It could be that everyone is home during the day, so that could be the peak time,” Kimbrough said.

68 may not be the ideal setting for you. Kimbrough says everyone is different and no two homes are alike in terms of insulation and structure. The key is to find what works for you.

“Everyone has a different comfort level and we try to tell our customers to stay where they are comfortable,” Kimbrough said.

Chilly days, cold nights, but you have the strength to stay cozy inside.

Alabama Power serves approximately 1.5 million customers.
