Alec Ingold of the Miami Dolphins always dreamed of playing at Lambeau Field

MIAMI GARDENS – They shouldn’t be hard to find. Amid a sea of Green Bay Packers fans at Lambeau Field there will be a few hundred on Thanksgiving evening.

And they will wear aqua and orange because they were commanded to.

“I told them, ‘No Packers gear.’ “You can’t bring it in,” Miami Dolphins fullback Alec Ingold said this week.

Ingold smiled at the irony. If he had grown up closer to Lambeau Field, he would have been able to hear the cheers for Brett Favre on Sunday afternoons. Of course, that doesn’t count the countless times he visited Lambeau, usually for Packers games, but at least once to dream.

“It’s a funny story,” he said. “It’s a meeting place, right? So I was probably 8 or 9 years old. My cousin is getting married and wedding receptions are being held there. So we’re up there and everyone’s dancing and having a good time.”

But you wouldn’t have found young Alec on the suite’s dance floor.

“I sat there for hours staring at the field and thinking, ‘Man, I want to be out there.’ I want to be there one day. “I want to play on this field one day.” ”

Thanksgiving night will provide Ingold with the opportunity, although not for the first time. He played at Lambeau in Pop Warner and for Wisconsin and as a rookie with the Oakland Raiders. If a Dolphins teammate needs a lesson on what makes the venue special, Ingold is the man.

“I think it’s a community place,” he said. “It’s about faith, family and football. This is how people eat, live and breathe, it only depends on this organization and this sport. I think it brings people together. I think they did a great job further renovating the place while keeping its history alive and vibrant. I just think they do a lot of things right. I think it’s going to be a really cool honor to be able to be on that field, especially on Thanksgiving. For a lot of people who grew up in this area, there are a lot of memories there.”

Ingold expects more memories to come this Thanksgiving. The original Madden Cruiser is set to pay a visit to Lambeau. The NFL plans to honor the memory of John Madden, who passed away in 2021, during all three nationally televised games on Thanksgiving Day. All six teams will wear Madden patches on their jerseys.

“I’m thinking about the turducken,” Ingold said of the Madden Thanksgiving staple. “I think about him being the voice of football for so long, teaching fans and families how to play football at every big game.” He was fun, he brought energy. Obviously a legend in the coaching world. He did a lot of great things for this game and I’m glad we can continue to remember his legacy.”
