Linda Lavin – Star of the classic TV show Alice and the new hit series from Netflix Not a good deed – has received a flood of tributes following her death. Lavin’s rep confirmed that she passed away over the weekend.

Deadline reports that Lavin died unexpectedly after she was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. Until her death, she had been working on, among other things, promoting the release of the dark Netflix comedy Not a good deed Beginning of December. Lavin’s career began in the 1950s as part of the influential Chicago improvisational group Compass Players and later included award-winning performances on stage and screen.

The series revolved around a widow named Alice Spivak Hyatt (Lavin) who meets colorful characters in her job as a waitress at a roadside restaurant. Alice was adapted for the small screen from director Martin Scorsese’s 1974 romantic comedy Alice doesn’t live here anymorewith Ellen Burstyn in the title role. Lavin continued to have success on television, playing the sharp-tongued grandmother Sophie Cohen The OK and Investigator Joy Grubick The good woman.
