AMD’s next-generation RDNA 4 graphics cards, unveiled (rather fleetingly) at CES 2025, could be available sooner than thought – at least for pre-order, if the date accidentally published by a US retailer turns out to be correct.

B&H Photo has apparently released early offers for some Asus RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards (TUF and Prime models), all with a pre-order date of January 23rd.

These entries have now been removed, but not before being screened by one of the regular hardware leakers on X, @momomo_us (hat tip to VideoCardz).

So it seems we’ll be able to reserve these highly anticipated RDNA 4 graphics cards in just two weeks, presumably ahead of a release that might happen a week later.

Analysis: Battle of the next generation desktop GPUs

Interestingly, another recent rumor about the RX 9070 release date came from graphics card manufacturer XFX, which has an announcement or launch of these GPUs scheduled for January 24th. So, one way or another, it seems something will happen to RDNA 4 in the last week of January.

It seems that this could be the official reveal of the full specs and pricing details (which were not revealed at CES 2025), even before they are available in stores (which is why B&H is offering them as pre-orders). Of course, all of this should be taken with a grain of salt, and in fact there is a difference in the dates – January 23rd or 24th – that casts even more doubt on these rumors. While the XFX rumors come from the Middle East department, the time difference between that and the 9am ET pre-order launch in B&H is still the same day (just).

We’ll just have to wait and see, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if AMD planned to launch RDNA 4 and have these graphics cards on shelves by the end of January, because Nvidia’s RTX 5090 and 5080 go on sale on January 30. The dates for one A kind of big GPU showdown of the next generation is certain.

As you may know, the RX 9070 models won’t compete with Nvidia’s RTX 5080 (and certainly not the 5090). So how exactly does a “showdown” happen? Well, the reality is that the RTX 5080 will be far too expensive for most consumers, even if the MSRP of $999 was cheaper than expected. (Yes, some people thought it would easily cost $1,199, maybe even more – although third-party boards will inevitably end up more in that range, as most of them will be quite a bit more expensive than the Founders Edition at Nvidia’s MSRP. )

What we’ll have then is a situation where AMD can theoretically come to market with much cheaper next-gen GPUs, pique the interest of potential buyers, and reap more sales with RDNA 4 once people realize how expensive RTX is 5080 GPUs – when Nvidia’s $999 Founders Edition inevitably sells out at lightning speed – may win the showdown this way.
