Amy Grant once said something to Vince Gill that he never forgot

Vince Gill recently spoke about his personal life with his wife Amy Grant as a guest on Clint Black’s Talk in circles Interview show on Peacock.

The Country leading man told Black about a time early in their relationship when he took Grant golfing. Fans know that Gill wears his heart on his sleeve – he has a hard time hiding his emotions, both positive and negative.

That was an issue on the golf course that day, he explains.

Gill says he carefully put the golf club back in his bag and tried to discreetly break the head off to vent his anger while also hiding it from Grant.

“We’re playing and I hit a shot. “I’m not so happy and I put the bat in my pocket and break his head off,” he recalls.

“She turned around and saw me, and I said, ‘I’m sorry,'” Gill recalls. “And she said, ‘Ah, that doesn’t surprise me.'”

“I’m like, ‘Well, what do you mean?’ She says: “Nobody laughs more than you, you love comedians, you laugh from the bottom of your heart when something is funny.”

What she said next remains in his memory to this day.

“She says, ‘And then I saw you completely break down in front of the whole world and cry your eyes out. Now you’ve hit a golf shot and you’re crazy. You can’t control any of it.’ your feelings,” Gill remembers Grant telling him.

“How can you ever expect to control an emotion when you can’t control any of your emotions?”

As he recalled the incident, tears welled in his eyes as he described what his now wife of nearly 25 years had said and what it still meant to him.

“That was pretty powerful because all my life I’ve only felt sadness about that feeling, about anger. Then someone showed me the entirety of who I am and it was powerful. Pretty cool.”

The couple has been married since 2000 and will celebrate 25 years of happiness in March. Gill recently shared his secret to a happy marriage with the rest of the world.
