The Pittsburgh Steelers could be looking to sign Russell Wilson for the foreseeable future. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Wilson is not just a “bridge quarterback” for the Steelers, but a potential long-term solution. With rumors of a contract extension similar to Baker Mayfield’s deal in Tampa Bay — three years, $100 million — Steelers fans have a lot to talk about.

The 36-year-old Wilson came to Pittsburgh wondering if he could revive his career and bring consistent success to the Steelers’ offense. Although he still has a lot to prove – including whether he can lead Pittsburgh deep into the playoffs – his leadership skills, football IQ and ability to play under pressure have helped stabilize the team’s offense and turning them into competitors. Wilson’s veteran experience could perfectly complement the young talent surrounding him.

The proposed deal would make sense for both sides. A three-year, $100 million extension would give Wilson the security he deserves while allowing the Steelers flexibility in building their roster. But has Wilson’s performance shown he’s more than just a stopgap?

Pittsburgh loves a quarterback with grit and determination, and Wilson fits that mold perfectly. If the extension goes through, it will signal the Steelers’ confidence in building a championship-caliber team around him.
