Andrew Garfield and Ryan Reynolds reflect on the kiss during Ryan Gosling’s Golden Globes win

It may have been hilarious at the time, but Andrew Garfield and Ryan Reynolds now feel a little bad about how their dramatic backstage kiss stole the spotlight from Ryan Gosling during his win at the 2017 Golden Globes.

The couple recently reunited for the first time since their “Smooching in the Frame” awards show diversity‘S Actors on actors video series in which Garfield revealed that he later apologized to Gosling for eventually hijacking his celebration.

“I also felt a little insensitive about Ryan’s moment in retrospect,” Garfield said of the kiss, prompting Reynolds to confess: “I did too!”

The Deadpool and Wolverine star continued, “But I was grateful that it was in such a wide shot that no one noticed until later, and it was actually kind of perfect, and then you were like, ‘Oh, oh, oh.'”

According to the story, Reynolds and Gosling were nominated for their roles in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy Dead Pool And La-La Landrespectively. Garfield, who was nominated for his performance in the biographical war film Hacksaw Ridgesuggested the prank while sitting next to Reynolds at the event.

“Garfield sits next to me and says, ‘Hey, when they call your name and you win, don’t kiss your wife (Blake Lively), just kiss me,'” Reynolds recalls. “And of course Gosling, who absolutely doesn’t deserve it…”

The 48-year-old, who is known for his dry wit, couldn’t help but laugh at the untrue statement. “I’m actually a real, crazy fan of (Gosling’s),” Reynolds admitted, “but of course he won.” La-La Landlike he should, and I love that we just sat there and said, ‘Eh, let’s just do it anyway.'”

Garfield stated he was glad Reynolds was up for the kiss, but noted that he later reached out to Gosling to make up for her cheeky behavior. “Fortunately, I was able to apologize to Ryan for that,” he said, “and say I’m very, very sorry.”

Reynolds? Not so much. “Actually, I just fired up his house,” he teased as Garfield laughed. “This is super childish, but I didn’t feel so good when I lost.”

When visiting The Late Show In 2017, Garfield explained that he kissed Reynolds because he “just wanted Ryan to know that I love him no matter whether he won or lost,” before giving host Stephen Colbert a kiss.

Gosling, on the other hand, has been fully supportive of Reynolds and Garfield’s romance since their kiss. “I’m happy for them,” he told Metro UK of that moment in 2017. “I’m happy that they found each other.”
