Anfernee Simons of the Trail Blazers climbs onto the franchise’s 3-point leaderboard

Portland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simons continued his climb up the franchise’s rankings with three-point field goals made.

Simons hit a three-pointer in the third quarter of the Blazers’ 114-106 loss at the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night, giving him 827 career points. That ranked him third all-time in Blazers history.

Simons, 25, surpassed Wesley Matthews, who scored 826 points during his time with the Blazers from 2010 to 2015.

CJ McCollum (1,297) ranks second in Blazers history behind Damian Lillard (2,387).

“It’s definitely a pretty cool moment to stand behind the two guys who taught you a lot in the league,” Simons told reporters at Crypto.com Arena.

Simons shot 4 of 9 from long range during the game and finished the night with 830 career three-pointers.

Simons, who scored 23 points in the loss, also eclipsed the 5,000-point mark after entering the game with 4,996 points. He now has 5,019.

Blazers coach Chauncey Billups said Simons’ work ethic allowed him to achieve both accomplishments.

“His summers and he’s dedicated to his craft and trying to get better,” Billups told reporters. “As we know his role evolves every year, the bigger your role, the more attention you will attract from the other team. Find out how teams play against you. Covers. Then you have to put together your own team.
