Anthony Davis gets Lakers-Timberwolves injury update after LeBron James exits

The Los Angeles Lakers have already ruled out LeBron James for Friday night’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to left foot pain. Los Angeles has had an inconsistent 2024-25 season overall, as they enter Friday’s contest at 13-11. The Lakers will need Anthony Davis on the court against the Timberwolves while James is absent, but will the big star be available to play?

Davis is listed as probable on the NBA injury report at the time of writing this story. It’s also worth noting that Austin Reaves (left pelvic contusion) is questionable. Jaxson Hayes (right ankle sprain/bruise), Jarred Vanderbilt (recovering from right foot surgery), Jalen Hood-Schifino (left hamstring strain), Christian Wood (recovering from left knee surgery) and Bronny James (G League) are all listed as retired besides LeBron.

Davis suffers from left plantar fasciitis. It’s worth noting that AD was able to play in the Lakers’ recent 107-98 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. It is likely that Davis will play against the Timberwolves barring any unforeseen circumstances. Nevertheless, the Lakers will monitor the situation closely before the start of the game.

Anthony Davis hopes to overcome injury concerns to lead Lakers against Timberwolves

Davis, a nine-time All-Star, is averaging 27.5 points per game on 52.9 percent field goal and 32 percent three-point shooting so far in 2024-25. He also averages 11.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.0 blocks per appearance.

The 31-year-old is more than capable of making a big impact on both ends of the floor. Davis can defend the best big men in the NBA while leading LA’s offense. With LeBron James set to miss the Lakers-Timberwolves game, LA needs Davis to play at an All-Star level.

Of course, not everything will fall completely to him. The Lakers have to show a team performance. If Davis gets enough help while living up to his standards, Los Angeles could end up with the road win. Minnesota has failed to live up to its expectations so far, as it is just 12-11 in the 2024-25 season. The Timberwolves last played on Sunday when they were defeated by the Golden State Warriors 114-106.

Friday night’s tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST as the Lakers look to take care of away business in Minnesota. Fans should keep an eye on Friday’s NBA injury report for updates on Anthony Davis’ status for the game.
