Anthony Edwards opens his checkbook again.

The NBA announced Sunday that it has fined the Timberwolves All-Star $100,000 for “using vulgar language during a live television interview.” According to the league’s statement, the NBA imposed the six-figure fine “based in part on Edwards’ history of using profanity during media interviews.”

The interview that led to Sunday’s fine came after Minnesota’s 113-112 win over the Houston Rockets on Friday. In the game, Edwards capped a Minnesota rally from a 106-90 deficit with a go-ahead three-pointer off a game-winning pass from Nickeil Alexander-Walker with 23 seconds left.

After the game, Edwards made no mention of his language during an effusive postgame interview on live television.

“I gotta get it, shit,” Edwards said. “Nickail found me. He interrupted me. I’m like, shit, I’m going for the win. As Gilbert Arenas said, ‘I don’t work overtime.’ So screw it.

That’s enough. Edwards may have slipped past with the two S-bombs. But the F-bomb wouldn’t go under the NBA’s radar, especially given Edwards’ history.

As the NBA statement noted, this is not Edwards’ first foray into juicy postgame language. The league had previously fined Edwards in December for dropping two F-bombs in a postgame interview following a win over the Warriors.

“Naz (Reid) and Julius (Randle) play damn defense,” Edwards told reporters on Dec. 6. “I’ve never seen them on defense before. So this is fucking incredible. And it is him.” Right here, point the camera at him.

This interview cost Edwards $25,000.

Edwards was also fined $35,000 in November for defrauding a Kings fan in Sacramento:

Just days ago, he was fined $75,000 for calling the officials “fucking terrible” after a Dec. 21 loss to the Warriors.

With Sunday’s fine, Edwards’ tally for the 2024-25 season now stands at $235,000. And that’s just this season. Edwards has been fined in recent seasons for language and criticism of officials. And the NBA has made it clear that he faces ever-increasing penalties as a repeat offender.

Edwards is due $42.2 million this season as part of his five-year, $244.6 million rookie contract extension. It’s clear he doesn’t mind setting aside some of his salary to say what’s on his mind.
