Antoine Semenyo rejected as Bournemouth are held by Crystal Palace | Premier League

Top-flight club Bournemouth remained unbeaten in six Premier League games but had to settle for a point after a goalless draw against Crystal Palace.

Having picked up 13 points from the last 15 available following Sunday’s stunning 3-0 win at Manchester United, the Cherries were unable to see off a Palace side who beat Arsenal 5-1 at the weekend.

Oliver Glasner’s team could not lose sight of the limited clear possibilities of a stalemate as they went four away games in the top flight without defeat. Bournemouth fall to sixth – behind Newcastle on goal difference – after failing to score for the first time in 11 games, reflecting a 1-0 defeat at Leicester on October 5.

Eberechi Eze returned to Palace’s starting XI following Saturday’s defeat to the Gunners as part of a series of changes, while the recalled Lewis Cook captained a Cherries team that made three changes from the impressive win at Old Trafford.

Jean-Philippe Mateta fired an early effort wide of the goal and Eagles teammates Ismaïla Sarr and Daniel Muñoz each shot straight at Kepa Arrizabalaga in an unforgettable opening to the contest. At the other end, Dango Ouattara shot across goal while Sarr parried Antoine Semenyo’s effort near the goal line following Cook’s corner.

Sarr, who has scored three goals in his last two top-flight games, calmly pushed past Kepa in the 27th minute but was clearly offside when he was passed through by former Bournemouth midfielder Jefferson Lerma. Kepa blocked Eze’s powerful long-range shot at the start of the second half as the visitors initially remained the greater threat in front of the goal. As time ticked away, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola brought in the club’s record signing Evanilson in place of Enes Unal with 28 minutes left to breathe life into his side.

Semenyo shot dangerously across goal and Ouattara nodded before Evanilson shot wide after a poor header from Palace defender Maxence Lacroix. Bournemouth continued to have the better chances in the second half but never seriously tested Palace’s Dean Henderson despite a lively display from substitute Philip Billing.

Bournemouth will be hoping to get back to winning ways at Fulham on Sunday, while Palace host bottom-placed Southampton the same afternoon as they look to move further clear of the relegation zone.
