Richard Gere took a trip and visited his pal Antonio Banderas in Malaga to enjoy a performance of his musical “Gypsy” on Thursday, January 9th.

The star of Pretty Woman, The Cotton Club and American Gigolo didn’t hesitate to accept the offer of a seat at the Soho Theater to see one of the Gypsy Company’s last performances in Malaga before heading to Madrid.

Antonio Banderas, the musical’s director, welcomed the actor to the theater at the end of the performance. Gere praised Gypsy’s spectacularity and the enormous talent of the cast and crew. He also congratulated Marta Ribera on her great performance and addressed a few words to the cast: “Even though I don’t understand everything in Spanish, I loved the show,” said the Hollywood star.

Gypsy is at the peak of its popularity and ended with sold-out tickets in Malaga. The troupe will only return to the stage of the Apolo Theater in Madrid on February 7th.

With a script by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, “Gypsy” was performed for the first time in Spain, brought here by Antonio Banderas, who created a very abstract and purely artistically different version of the show. The musical has around thirty actors on stage and 26 musicians from the Larios Pop Orchestra of Soho.
