Meta apps such as Instagram, Facebook and Threads are experiencing problems on Wednesday afternoon as users report error messages online.

The outage tracker Downdetector shows big spikes for Instagram, with above-average 70,000 outage reports, and Facebook, where there were over 100,000 outage reports on Wednesday afternoon. After peaking around 1:10 p.m. ET, the number of outage reports began to decline.

WhatsApp, another Meta app, saw a similar increase in reports, and the reports also appeared to extend to Facebook Messenger. USA TODAY reporters have also experienced these outages, with some seeing blank home screens on Instagram for more than three minutes.

In posts on X, Instagram and Meta have highlighted the reported issues affecting some users’ access to their apps.

“We are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience,” Meta’s statement said.
