Ariana Grande Bought Pink Clothes at ‘Wicked’ Castings (Exclusive)

Ariana Grande designed her Glinda wardrobe in full force – off camera, before she even had the role!

In a PEOPLE exclusive clip from the Evil In the digital home release, out now, the 31-year-old actress and singer admits that she had “a little part of my closet just made up of little pink tops and stuff, just in case” she got the role of a lifetime.

“I asked myself, ‘What underwear would Glinda wear today?’ Grande jokes.

The two-time Grammy winner hasn’t shied away from what she’s long described as her dream role in Glinda in the past, laughing as she says in the clip: “I was on the hunt for (producer) Marc Platt for about ten years wondering when this film would take place, when I would get the opportunity to audition.

“When I heard they might start meeting people in a few months, I thought, ‘Great! Now it’s time to get started,'” Grande adds.

She also recalls details of her “first audition” that ultimately led to her being cast in the musical film, including singing not only “No One Mourns the Wicked” and “Popular,” but also the Elphaba-led songs “Defying Gravity and “The Wizard and I.”

“Weirdly enough, I sang for both of them (Glinda and Elphaba),” Grande says of the roles that went to her and co-star Cynthia Erivo. “I don’t know why – I think we all kind of knew why I went in, and it was for Glinda.”

“I love Elphaba, but you know,” she quips.

Director Jon M. Chu also appears in the clip and says he was fully aware before casting Grande that she had “publicly said she always wanted this role.”

And at first he hesitated, explaining: “In my head I was like, ‘We’ll never give this to Ariana Grande.’ That’s what’s going to take over the movie – (it’s going to be) about Ariana Grande.’ ”

But the 45-year-old filmmaker changed his tune pretty quickly when he saw what she had to offer.

“Every time she came in, she was an Ari I had never seen before. And every time she left, she was the most interesting person,” he adds.

Evil can now be purchased or rented digitally. Pre-orders are also available for the film’s release on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD from February 4, 2025.
