Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings: First Quarter Recap and Second Quarter Discussion

The first quarter from US Bank Stadium is set and the Minnesota Vikings are tied 3-3 with the Arizona Cardinals.

Arizona had first place in football in this game after the Vikings won the coin toss and decided to wait for the second half. The Cardinals put together a nice mix of runs and passes and eventually pushed into the Minnesota red zone, but their drive stalled and they had to settle for a 32-yard field goal from Chad Ryland to tie the score after about six minutes to take a 3-0 lead in the game.

The Vikings narrowly avoided disaster on their first play of the game when Aaron Jones fumbled the ball and Brian O’Neill immediately fell on it. The Vikings then quickly advanced into Arizona territory with a pass from Sam Darnold to Johnny Mundt. Then Darnold was sacked to stall the drive, and Parker Romo made it 3-3 with a 44-yard field goal.

Arizona got the ball near midfield on their second possession, but an incomplete pass from Murray halted their advance and the Cardinals batted it away while Brandon Powell fairly intercepted the punt at the 14-yard line. Then, on the first play of the next drive, Jones caught a checkdown from Darnold and fumbled againand the Cardinals got this one at the Minnesota 19-yard line.

The Vikings defense held firm after the turnover and the Cardinals are looking at a 3rd-and-21 from the Minnesota 30 when play resumes.
