Arkansas freshman Boogie Fland is overlooked for 22-year-old star as John Calipari escapes heartbreak

The Arkansas Razorbacks extended their winning streak to three games after a thrilling 89-87 victory over Michigan. Both teams showed their strengths and dominated each half in terms of scoring, but John Calipari’s Razorbacks ultimately prevailed. Freshman Boogie Fland delivered an outstanding performance and led the game in scoring. However, when it came time to decide who would receive the coveted game ball after the final buzzer, it wasn’t Fland who claimed the honor.

Instead, the team unanimously presented it to a special teammate – the birthday boy of the day. A clip from Arkansas’ locker room quickly gained traction on social media and showed head coach John Calipari asking his players to decide who deserves the honor.

Although Boogie Fland’s outstanding performance as the game’s leading scorer would have made him the obvious choice, the Razorbacks had other plans. With loud cheers they celebrated senior striker Jonas Aidoo, who celebrated his 22nd birthday that same evening.

The team’s official account shared the locker room moment on X and posted the video with the caption: “Everyone says happy birthday @jonasaidooo.” Aidoo scored fewer points than Fland with 11 points and 7 rebounds, but his contribution proved crucial. In a game decided by just two points, every effort counted as Calipari’s team narrowly secured victory and avoided a tough defeat.
