How it happened

It was a first-half nightmare for Indiana on Wednesday afternoon in the Bahamas. The Hoosiers constantly turned the ball over and, despite their physical superiority, could never get used to the paint. The result was the first 20 minutes in which the Hoosiers trailed by 10 points twice and trailed 37-29 at the break. Indiana shot a terrible 31 percent from the field in the first half, turned the game over 11 times and attempted just six three-pointers. Louisville, meanwhile, shot nearly 47 percent from the field and went 7-for-17 on 3s (41.2 percent). Without Malik Reneau’s 15 points, the lead at halftime would have been larger. Indiana’s guards – Myles Rice, Kanaan Carlyle and Trey Galloway – didn’t score in the first half.

The second half was a continuation of the first half. Louisville was the aggressor while Indiana looked unprepared and uninspired. At the 13:26 mark, Louisville led 62-37 after a layup by James Scott. The lead grew to 28 points at 68-40 after a layup by Terrence Edwards Jr. with 11:46 left. Things only got worse from there. By the eight-and-under media timeout, Louisville’s lead was 74-40. The embarrassing loss set up the Hoosiers to face loser Gonzaga-West Virginia on Thanksgiving Day at 2:30 p.m. ET.
