Celtics star Jayson Tatum will be sidelined for Thursday’s match against Detroit due to right patellar tendinopathy, according to MassLive.com’s Souichi Terada. Tatum, who also missed his first game of the season against the Pistons last week, was initially listed as questionable before being ruled out.

As Terada writes, Boston is probably just being cautious with the All-NBA forward since the team doesn’t play again until Sunday and is giving Tatum a full week off. Sam Hauser (right adductor strain) and Jaden Springer (Illness) will also miss Thursday’s competition.

Here are a few more notes from the Atlantic:

  • Head coach Darko Rajakovic is understandably disappointed that the Raptors All young regular players still have to be on the pitch together this season, writes Eric Koreen from The Athletic. Scottie Barnes is expected to be out for several weeks after spraining his right ankle, and Immanuel Quickley remains sidelined with a left elbow injury. “It would be great” said Rajakovic about the core’s shared view. “We didn’t have our core and main guys in their roles all season. And what it does at the same time is that we can’t see what our bank would look like if we had these people in their roles. … I remain confident that sooner or later we will be able to look at our entire squad and see what it looks like. And I think it will be great for the guys to develop the chemistry of playing together and growing together and giving us a lot of answers.”
  • With the Sixers approaching full strength, what is Jared McCainis the ideal role? Head coach Nick Nurse hasn’t decided on a decision yet, but the reigning Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month should definitely get plenty of chances, as Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. “I’m still not entirely suresaid the nurse. “But I think at the moment it looks like he’ll be an early goalscorer in the two games when he comes off the bench. In any case, we’ll show him something about this one. I could imagine that this would change a little at some point. But (I) really liked him.”
  • On Wednesday, the Sixers and the Philadelphia City Council continued to argue over the community benefits agreement portion of the new arena proposal, Sean Collins Walsh and Anna Orso of The Philadelphia Inquirer report. Some council members wanted the team to increase its public financing offer from $50 million to $75 million to $100 million. But despite some opposition, the council on Thursday initially approved the proposed plan, which calls for $60 million in funding from the 76ers for the community benefits agreement, according to The Inquirer. A team spokesman said the Sixers were exploring short-term changes to the deal.
