Australia vs India: Bumrah and Deep lead tourists past the line-up

Rain played a key role in this game and continued to do so for much of the fourth day.

An hour was lost in the morning, while the extended afternoon session was delayed and then interrupted twice.

This meant taking time out of the game for the hosts, but also allowed Cummins and Starc to remain relatively fresh and come back for appearances in each game session.

Cummins in particular was magnificent and hostile while India struggled to cope with his clever length changes.

The tourists looked happy when Nitish Kumar Reddy and Jadeja shared 53 for the seventh wicket but Cummins let the former drag on and that opened the door.

Siraj soon fell and Jadeja, looking to increase the score, reached square leg to make the follow-up a real possibility.

It is unknown whether Australia would have enforced this due to Hazlewood’s injury, but given the game time already lost and the possibility of further rain on Wednesday, it is very likely they would have done so.

However, the option was taken off the table by the brilliance of Bumrah (10 not out) and especially Deep (27 not out).

The pair were able to work individuals almost at will as Australia set up attacking fields before Deep’s bravery took them over the mark.

After the pressure eased, he sent Cummins over mid-wicket to the second row before the umpires decided the light was not good enough to continue.

The unbeaten stand of 39 probably saved the game for India and they will be hoping the momentum swings back in their favor after being completely outplayed in this game and the second Test.
