“Baby Driver” actor dies in accident

Hudson Meek, a young actor known for portraying the child version of the title character in the hit action film Baby driver and more recently a handful of television series roles, died after falling from a moving vehicle in Alabama. He was 16.

Meek’s accident occurred on Dec. 19 in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, and he “sustained blunt force injuries after falling from a moving vehicle onto the roadway,” Deputy Coroner Bill Yates told local news outlet AL.com . He was taken to a local hospital but passed away “peacefully” Saturday, according to an obituary posted on the Searcy Funeral Homes website.

“It breaks our hearts to inform you that Hudson Meek has gone home to be with Jesus tonight,” a post on Meek’s Instagram account read. “His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and made a significant impact on everyone he met.”

As a sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School, he was a member of the Vestavia Hills Rebel football team. According to the obituary, he was also passionate about his faith; The Simpsonshaving played all 36 seasons of the series; his close friends; water sports; everything in the forest; Travel; and acting.

Meek appeared in a few supporting roles on television and in short films before landing the role of Young Baby Driver in Edgar Wright’s 2010 action comedy. The film was a critical and box office hit that propelled Meek’s career. He received further credits for the network series MacGyver, Legacies And Found.

Hudson is survived by his parents, Derek Firth Meek and Lani Wells Meek; his older brother, Tucker Firth Meek; and his grandmothers Margaret Green Meek and Faye Searcy Wells. A memorial service for Meek will be held on December 28 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama.
