Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning wins Golden Globe

Jessica Gunning had flashbacks to her childhood as she accepted her award at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night.

Reminiscing with the audience about getting a hamster for Christmas when she was eight, she said: “I kept saying, ‘I can’t believe this happened to me.'”

She felt the same way when she stood on stage Sunday to accept her second award for her groundbreaking supporting role in the Netflix series Baby reindeer.

The actress won for Best Performance by a Female Actress in a Supporting Role on Television. This is her first nomination and her first win. The award follows Gunning’s first Primetime Emmy win in September.

“I realized that this moment was kind of the soundtrack to my life over the last year,” she explained. “I can’t believe any of this happened to me.”

She added that the Netflix limited series “changed my life in ways I can’t even explain” and that her 8-year-old self would be overwhelmed by the situation she was in at that moment.

Baby reindeer won a big win at the Emmys and also scored an acting win for star and creator Richard Gadd as well as the trophy for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

Based on Gadd’s successful one-man play Edinburgh Fringe, which in turn was based on his personal experiences, Baby reindeer It became a bona fide cultural phenomenon when it debuted in April, spending eight weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 TV (English) list and reaching Top 10 TV in 92 countries. The show follows comedian Donny Dunn (Gadd)’s twisted relationship with his stalker Martha (Gunning) and the impact she has on him as he is ultimately forced to confront deeply buried trauma.

Wim De Greef, Petra Fried, Gadd, Matt Jarvis and Ed Macdonald produced the show, with Matthew Mulot serving as producer.
