Bacca remembers the Supercoppa triumph, previews the Juve game and comments on Milan

Carlos Bacca was part of the last AC Milan team to win the Supercoppa Italiana, funnily enough against Juventus over eight years ago.

The 2016 Supercoppa was played on December 23, 2016 at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Qatar. Juventus were the defending Serie A champions, and because they also won the Coppa Italia, Milan qualified as runners-up in the cup.

However, Juve were the pre-match favorites The Rossoneri won 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw after extra time. It was Vincenzo Montella’s first and ultimately only trophy and the last until the 2021/22 Scudetto for the club.

Bacca didn’t score but still remembers the shootout victory, brought about by Donnarumma’s brilliant save from Dybala and Pasalic’s decisive spot-kick. He spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about that evening and his old club in general.

Even though eight years have passed, you still remember that night in Doha well…

“How could I? This is probably the best memory of my experience at AC Milan. We played a great game against a strong opponent and managed to beat them with great heart.”

This team also included Locatelli, who will play against Milan tonight…

“Manuel was young but he was destined to become the great player he is now. He started training with us after the youth team because Brocchi saw qualities in him.

“He made the most of his opportunities and is now showing his value at Juventus and the national team. He is one of the midfielders who make the difference in Italian football.”

Do you still hear about this site from your teammates?

“I speak to Calabria with Donnarumma, Locatelli and Cutrone. They were great teammates and fantastic people. I wish Milan all the best.”

What kind of game are you expecting tonight?

“It’s tough because Motta’s team is tough and hasn’t lost in the league yet. It will take a good performance, but I am convinced Milan can reach the final.”

Will you also be sitting in front of the TV?

“When Atletico Junior de Barranquilla’s training schedule allows it… I always follow Milan and the Rossoneri have another fan in Colombia.”

Are you disappointed with how this year has gone so far?

“If Milan don’t get results, it is inevitable that the management will change the coach. It’s part of the game… Conceiçao brings a new idea of football that we hope will be successful and will restart Milan in the race to qualify for the Champions League.

“The biggest club in Italy must always have the goal of fighting for the Scudetto and taking part in the Champions League.”

Do you regret the end of your adventure at AC Milan?

“NO. All I have in me is the pride of having worn the jersey of one of the most important clubs in the world. I am sure that I gave everything. And this Supercoppa is a really nice memory.”
