“This will always be your extended home,” the New York City newspaper wrote in a note to the Puerto Rican superstar

Bad Bunny opened his new album Triumph More photos by Debi Tirar with “NUEVAYOL,” a tribute to his second home in New York. “Un shot de cañita en casa de Toñita y PR se siente cerquita,” he boasts on the record. “A shot of rum at Toñita and Puerto Rico feels so close.” The superstar boarded his makeshift teleportation machine to a packed party at the Caribbean Social Club, better known as Toñitas, on Sunday night.

Bad Bunny was accompanied by New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nydia Velazquez, the first Puerto Rican woman to serve in Congress. He also saved a dance for Toñita herself, Maria Antonia Cay, who opened the club in the ’70s.

“Gracias por decir presente de nuevo,” Toñita wrote on Instagram, thanking the musician for his return. They have entered into a new tradition together. In 2024, Bad Bunny stopped by for a big celebration after the release of Un Verano Sin Ti. “Esta siempre sera tu casa extensionida,” the comment continued, translating to “This will always be your extended home.”

“It’s funny because it’s an album completely dedicated to Puerto Rico, but it starts in New York,” Bad Bunny said recently Rolling Stone. “That’s how the album started: Back in the day, when a Puerto Rican went to the United States, he would say, ‘Me voy pa’ Nueva York!’ So New York used to be an abbreviation for “I went off-island.” And at the same time, amazing things happened in New York when Latinos and Puerto Ricans were here – we teamed up with Cubans and Dominicans, there was music, there was art.”

Bad Bunny will be on later this evening The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
